B.I.G. EXACT™: An unparalleled vision technology

With B.I.G. VISION™ based on DNEye® technology, Rodenstock established a paradigm shift in the calculation of lenses by taking into account the unique shape and size of each eye. Rodenstock offers with B.I.G. EXACT™ the first high-precision lenses made by using an exact biometric model of each eye. Using the DNEye® scanner, Rodenstock measures all of the eye’s relevant biometric parameters that are necessary to create a unique biometric eye model. This includes the eye length and several thousand data points - this is unique in the industry.

True precision for better vision

The exact biometric eye model is used in the lens calculation and finally transferred into the lens during production. Each lens is then customized according to the biometric parameters. The result: high-precision lenses that allow spectacle wearers to benefit from the sharpest vision for every angle and every look, no matter where they look.

The challenge - an old norm

At the beginning of biometric research, Rodenstock faced a challenge - an old norm where the only input most lens manufacturers use to tailor lenses to the user’s eyes is a standard calculation based on just the four prescription values from the standard vision test.  

If spectacle lenses are only manufactured based on these four values, standard values from the reduced eye model are used for the biometric data of the individual eye, which only fit 2% of eyes. These fail into account the fact that every eye is different – in shape and refractive capabilities.

New calculation standards for all key parameters

With the DNEye® Scanner, Rodenstock has measured the biometric parameters of hundreds of thousands of eyes to develop biometrically accurate lenses. These data sets form one of the largest biometric data pools in the industry. Rodenstock was able to analyze the data obtained from more than 500,000 exact eye measurements and uncover correlations between the biometric parameters of the eye and standard refraction values.

With the help of statistical analyses, Rodenstock is able to determine new, more precise values for all important biometric parameters of the eye. In addition to the eye length, these are above all the astigmatic as well as the spherical refractive power of the cornea, the pupil diameter, the thickness of the cornea and much more.

With this new standard of lens calculation, Rodenstock can fully develop the potential of the 500,000 individual biometric eye measurements and achieve a new level of biometric precision in the lens calculation of conventional lenses.

B.I.G. NORM™ – See better with the power of AI

By identifying correlations in the data and transferring them into a sophisticated AI algorithm, Rodenstock is able to move away from the old norm. The new standard of lens calculation allows Rodenstock to create an AI-based biometric model of the eye using only the four standard refraction values provided by optometrists as input. This new standard allows Rodenstock to achieve a much higher level of biometric precision for standard lenses and can therefore deliver with B.I.G. NORM™ biometric lenses even when accurate measurements are not available from the DNEye® scanner.
