The roots of DAO
...date back to 1830, when the success story of the frame manufacturer Metzler began. In 1993, Metzler MailShop GmbH was founded as a subsidiary and the frame portfolio was expanded to include spectacle lenses and ophthalmic optical devices. For many years, MailShop was successful on the market as a net lens supplier, primarily with inexpensive stock lenses. With PERFORMER, we decisively advanced the glazing and also the conversion for sports eyewear back in 2000. In 2014, we launched our bestseller, the Polaskop3D visual acuity system, and in 2016 MailShop GmbH became Deutsche Augenoptik AG, or DAO for short - with a breath of fresh air and new values.

Made in Germany
First-class quality, precision and reliability - that is the promise of 'Made in Germany'. Since 2022, we have been breaking new ground and relying on regional production facilities. All branded plastic varifocal and workplace lenses and all lenses with our noflex hyper-reflective coating are manufactured in Germany. We attach great importance to advanced technologies and a low CO2 footprint. This enables us to ensure that every lens meets the highest quality standards and satisfies our customers' requirements. For our customers, this also means faster delivery times, shorter waiting times and minimized supply bottlenecks.
