The Challenge of PFAS

Risks for the Environment, Eyeglass and Contact Lens Wearers, and Our Industry

Authorities from five EU countries have compiled and submitted a dossier examining the uses of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and the risks they pose to humans and the environment. The PFAS group comprises over 10,000 different substances, according to the latest estimates. However, PFAS are not easy to replace. A ban would remove many products from the market entirely, including the significant group of fluoropolymers essential for demanding applications. What does this mean for the field of optometry? A lecture that provides an overview and insights — and explains.
