For over 35 years, Fabián M Hofmann Bonengél has been designing eyewear—but his creations go far beyond the frames themselves. Each project is surrounded by a carefully crafted universe, a unique cosmos that elevates the product into a world of its own. Over the years, he has worked with numerous eyewear manufacturers, including serving as Head Designer for ic! berlin and Metzler International. He has co-founded and launched several independent eyewear labels, including Whiteout & Glare, Coblens, Metzler ONE830, Neon Berlin, and now Barcelunettes Eyewear.

For the past two decades, Fabián has supported countless brands as a technical consultant, helping to develop innovative solutions and collections. His portfolio includes collaborations with renowned names like Conquistador, Cutler & Gross, Dick Moby, Framers, Frederic Beausoleil, Hapter Eyewear, Johann von Goysern, Materialise, Metzler International, Nika Optics, Odette Lunette, Onono, and many more. Recognized by FAVR Magazine as one of the most influential designers in the eyewear industry, Fabián is no stranger to the field. With 37 design awards across Germany, Switzerland, the U.S., and Japan—including 22 for eyewear design and 15 for architecture, interior, and graphic design—he has proven his relevance and passion for innovation time and again.

Although BARCELUNETTES®, founded in mid-2022, is technically a startup, this label is anything but a newcomer. Fabián and his partner, Sieko Skrzypczak, bring decades of experience to this endeavor. With a touch of humor, they describe Barcelunettes as a "smart-up," a reflection of the wealth of knowledge and craftsmanship embedded in every detail—from the glasses themselves to the packaging, certifications, and overall brand identity.

The name Barcelunettes itself is a playful word fusion, combining Barcelona (and its Barceloneta neighborhood) with the French word for glasses, lunettes. This clever blend hints at the brand’s Mediterranean roots while evoking the elegance of the 1950s and 60s.
