About us

From classic goldsmith to innovative eyewear manufacturer.

Marcus Marienfeld, a trained goldsmith and jewel setter, decided in February 1992, after several years of professional wandering, to open his own goldsmith's studio in the old town of the small Valais Alpine town of Brig, at the foot of the Simplon Pass, the gateway to the south.

His intensive work in jewelry was soon enriched by custom-made spectacle frames, so it was only natural to delve deeper into this profession.
It was at this time that the first titanium spectacles came onto the market, produced exclusively in Japan. The Japanese have always been in love with materials and recognized that titanium had unique properties. It was as light as aluminum, could be as hard as steel and was hypoallergenic - three outstanding product properties. Unfortunately, it was only possible to process
to process. It proved difficult to shape. Milling was very time-consuming due to its toughness, and the resulting very short tool life was cost-intensive. And its connection, which was only possible by conventional soldering using nickel-containing solders, required the development of new technologies. These were all reasons to assume that
that titanium would ultimately not find a place in the eyewear industry - it would disappear just as quickly as it had appeared.

However, Marcus Marienfeld already knew at this time that this material would have a great future in our industry. Because its positive properties were too convincing. As we know today, he was proved right.
He gradually tackled the problems of processing. The Japanese, with their crazy ideas and the titanium alloys developed from them, were to supply Marcus Marienfeld AG with the highest quality raw materials. From the very beginning, the company relied on the newly emerging laser technology for joining technology, a pure welding process without the addition of any foreign materials.

The service life of the milling tools has been extended step by step by optimizing the cutting geometries. The use of state-of-the-art CNC technology and the combination of natural products, such as Indian water buffalo horn, with high-tech materials, such as carbon, guarantee the uniqueness of the 100% handcrafted frames. A path that was worth taking.

Today, Marcus Marienfeld AG enjoys worldwide success with its innovative products. It was recognized early on that perfect service is the basis for the success of the brand.
