From classic goldsmith to innovative eyewear manufacturer.
For more than 30 years, goldsmith and jeweler Marcus Marienfeld has been designing and manufacturing innovative eyewear frames in his Ried-Brig manufactory, using materials such as pure titanium, Indian water buffalo horn, unidirectional carbon, and 18-karat gold.
Founded in 1992, the company now employs 8 goldsmiths, watchmakers and surface finishers. A visit to the manufactory shows how the work is done. Highly concentrated filing, laser cutting and milling take place at the workstations. It's all about precision - every detail has to be right. Swiss precision is required, just like in the Swiss watch industry. It takes a lot of experience, skilled hands and, of course, a trained eye.
Milling is done on 5-axis CNC machines, and high-tech laser technology is used for joining. The coloring is based on PVD coating technology, a highly stable, anti-allergic and precise coating for refining metal surfaces.
Marcus Marienfeld always keeps an eye on the entire production chain, which distinguishes Marcus Marienfeld AG from the majority of eyewear manufacturers. In the eyewear industry, goldsmiths, model makers and designers usually work separately in different areas. This usually leads to inevitable compromises, for example if you have a crazy design idea, but the production department cannot realize it. Here, everything comes from one source, from one company.
