Over 200 years ago, Johann Heinrich August Duncker founded the "Königlich Privilegierte Optische Industrie-Anstalt" in the city of Rathenow. Over the decades, the variety of optical products and companies earned Rathenow the nickname "City of Optics".

Today the optic alliance brandenburg berlin (OABB) as a competence centre for optics from Rathenow, forms the cooperation platform in which knowledge and technology transfer, location marketing and location development as well as securing skilled workers and promoting young talent are coordinated.
