With over 40 years, Aalen University has by far the longest experience and therefore also the largest network in academic training in optometry. Over 1,500 optometrists have now successfully completed their diploma or bachelor's degree at Aalen University. Own laboratory building on the Burren campus
Since 2012, we have had our own great laboratory building with 1,750 square meters on the Burren campus. With us, you study in a family atmosphere. We offer tailor-made lectures and laboratory events in small groups and also invite experienced opticians/optometrists. With us students have the possibility of completing their “International Optometry” semester abroad, which is fully integrated with 30 credit points, in Australia, Canada, the US or Europe in the 6th semester. At the foreign partner universities you do not pay any (!) tuition fees, which is truly unique and therefore many of our students can financially afford this offer and thus get to know optometry where it has been successfully practiced for many years.
Part-time Master’s Degree Program with professors from the USA with Practical Experience
In the subsequent part-time M.Sc. program, which involves tuition fees. Vision Science and Business (Optometry), in which professors with practical experience and selected by Aalen University from the USA who are experienced and experts in their respective fields teach, usually once a month on five days from Friday to Tuesday inclusive (e.g., Vision Therapy, Pediatric, Ocular Diseases, Pharmacology, Pathology, etc.), you are guaranteed to be equipped for optometric practice according to international standards at the highest possible level, not only in German-speaking countries. Focus on “Research” for all those who want to pursue a career in science and industry
This part-time master's degree is also interesting for those who work in industry or research. You can also complete this master's program with a focus on "Research" and complete more than two-thirds of the coursework (specifically 65 of the usually required 90 credit points) with projects "on the job" (5 CP Optometric Project, 10 CP Scientific Methods, 20 CP Research Project, and 30 CP Master's Thesis). As a further top you can select the 5 CP modules Myopia Management, Low Vision, Contact Lenses, Marketing Management and Leadership and complete your part-time master's degree in two years with 100% employment in industry.
